creating a glow effect

greetings.

i have to reproduce a logo for a client who wants their logo printed on some large signage, banners, etc.?(their logo is attached)

making the shape of the letters is easy.?however, i'm having some trouble figuring out how to get the ''brushed glow'' on the lettering.

if anyone has suggestions on how to achieve this in illustrator, i'd greatly appreciate hearing them.?i know some of the effects in illustrator could get me close but i don't want to create any raster elements, if possible.?i've been messing around with some brushes, but i'm not sure that's the best approach.

any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Gradient Mesh is about the only way to do it without raster effects.

You could try a blend, but blends won't offer near the control of a mesh.

As Scott points out the Gradient Mess is the y to go, for Scott this is much easier then it might be foyou but it in time an patience will come to you there is a learning curve but once you catch on then it is a really great tool.

Especially for something like this.

Of course if Illustrator had some type effect tools this be?better approach but it does not and Type Styler is not available for modern OSs.

  1. TypeStyler does this easily and it IS available for Mac OS X. There's a free 60 day tryout available at http://www.typestyler.com/.
