Hi, so i just got Illustrator CS4, and when I installed it, it first gave me an error message, the one about the previous version and such. After i got rid of that problem, i open it up to install again, and it gives me this error :
''Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance.''
I've spent hours searching online for a solution, and I came across several windows topics ( most of which talked about the admin problem ) and one mac topic, which I've found comforting, knowing that someone else has had this problem with a mac, but not helpful. Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem, since it's already saturday where I am ( unable to call customer support )?
Thank you very much,
Kevin-- froznkhemistry
Installation Help ( Mac OSX )Please be more specific. What Mac? What version of OSX? What previous version? Did you run the CS3 Clean Script or CS4 Clean Utility? What otehr Adobe software may be on the system? Do you use any specific system extensions like font and keyboard managers? Also, if it's possible, please provide the install log or at least the last few lines from it. It can be found in Library:Logs:Adobe.

Installation Help ( Mac OSX )Sorry, here are the statistics :
Macbook Pro
Version 10.5.6
Memory 2 GB
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
I did not own a previous version, and although I ran the CS4 Clean Utility, it gave me no results, so I guess it means i have nothing to clean out. Also, strangely, there was nothing inside the Adobe folder of Library:Logs:Adobe, and at first, I thought it was because I needed to run the Setup again, but after running Setup, (and encountering the error message) there was still nothing there. There is only Adobe Photoshop CS4 on my computer and I'm not sure what you mean by system extensions, but I do have some custom fonts, although even if I had to, I wouldn't know how to get rid of them. I don't know what you mean聽 by keyboard managers. Here is a picture of the error message.
I'd guess... that since the request tells you to contact Adobe, there's a licensing issue perhaps. Or maybe an optical disk error that is unrecoverable and is causing the error, assuming it's the DVD and not a download. That's just a guess though.
If it were me, I'd boot into safe mode (hold down shift while booting the system) and try installing then.
I don't know what you mean聽 by keyboard managers.Well, I first tried the safe mode boot, and it didn't work, still the same error. And to Mylenium, if I uninstall Adobe Photoshop, will I have to install again from the disc, because i lost the disc, i don't want to risk it.
You can download the trial and turn it into a fully working app by entering a serial. That aside, you can always order replacement media for current versions of Adobe products or have them generate a download link - for a fee, of course. And generally - misplacing an install disk after only half a year can be interpreted in a million ways (no offense). I'd surely have a plan to keep it safe somewhere, considering a license of PS costs 1000 Euros.

Is that a legal copy of Photoshop and are you sure of it. The reason I ask is that there was no log of it it being installed
in the Adobe log files, that is not possible with a legal copy,
Is this a legal copy of Illustrator/ The reason I ask is that if it is and there is an pirated copy of Photoshop it would give this or a similar error
as it would detect another copy of the software hut no registration files and cleanup scripts would dectect nothing as well as it would be looking for those files and only those files. Not detecting them would leave it nothing to report and it therefore could not take any action.
Of course something coud habe been accidentally erased or went drastically wrong with the registration and serial number of Photoshop.
These problems can happen.
Something that can go wrong聽 like this can happen when migrating from the software ad the system from one hard drive ti another. From one computer another is not likely to be the problem as you would have mentioned that because of the activation problems you would have encountered.
So you have to tell us more or contact Adobe Customer Service who will help you through this and if you some how was sod and illegal copy of Photoshop they will be able to let you know this.
Oh, that's bad. I guess it might be an illegal copy, because I asked my friend if he could get me a copy of Photoshop for me. But it is a legal copy of Illustrator. How would this work then? Do i uninstall my Photoshop? I think it might take a while to get it back, and I'm working on a project for a friend, and I need both programs. I guess I could uninstall it, and then download a trial version. Could anyone provide me with a link to the Photoshop trial version?
You actually expect help?
My word.
What next, I guess can envision in the future someone braking into
your office or home stealing your computer e-mailing you up because
they wanted to install some warez but they needed your password would
you please supply it
and they're in a hurry because they have a really big project they
have to get done, there's a lot of money involved, so please sed the
password.
What do they call that in Italy?
*lol* Wade is of course right. If you use pirated software, anything can happen. I mean, let's be honest about it聽 - if you asked a friend to get it for you, it isn't legit. Software doesn't grow on trees to accidentally pluck it down. Even if it were his full license, at this point he'd break the licensing agreement by allowing you to use his secondary activation, when exactly that is not meant to be... In any case, try the suggestions we provided and see if any of it helps, including full removal of other Adobe products. It's quite possible that your ''bad'' Photoshop has tainted something and prevents otehr software from being installed properly.

But id you can't remove the illegal files make certain you file a
formal complaint to Consumer Affairs
giving all the details including your friends name and address.
A stick to the story this is Adobe's fault, even if the Photoshop file
is illegal how were you supposed to know!
BTW can you mark this post as answer my last post should be the one, I
really need the points I am very close to the free bag of popcorn
so close I can smell it鈥o that's not it鈥MG my popcorn is burning!
Well, I guess it's mostly my fault for using pirated software, and I thank you two for helping me anyways. So all I have to do is remove the Photoshop? I guess I'll be buying it after removing the pirated one. Well I know i can't just delete the program, but my uninstall is giving me an error :
Critical errors were found in setup for Adobe Photoshop CS4:
- undefined
- The installer database is invalid: please re-install the product from the original media
Please see the Setup log file for details. Click Quit to exit Setup.
Has anyone seen this error message before? Because if there's a fix to this error, I can uninstall and not file a complaint to Consumer Affairs.

LOL!
Scott鈥cott鈥ott鈥t is not the points, it's the Popcorn that counts!
Oh gee!
The OP actually marked this answered.
I am surprised they are still here even.
i think he actually answered his own question. It is clear installing pirated software is going to cause you problems.
Well I know the problems I have were caused by myself, but I was wondering if there was a way to fix them? Isn't that what this thread is about, after all? Also, I gave you the points because I thought you gave me the most information on my problem, although it wasn't fully answered. So could someone please help me? I know I did pirate the software, although unknowingly, but I also bought the Illustrator. Please, and thank you.
The reason o one is giving you the answer is that when we have given
this particular answer in the past we get an argument and a demand fro
the op who wants help as you put it to come up with another solution
when it is the only solution and you pretty much know what that
solution is, there is no other solution. The hackers fixed that for
you so it is now more a choice then advice that you need. And the only
one who can make that choice is you.
If you need more specific info you need customer service, but you
really know what to do.
Ok, I guess I understand what you mean, thanks for all the help. So all I have to do is get rid of all that crap the pirated software gave me, and I'll probably be able to install the Illustrator. I have one more question, I remember ages ago when I first started working with Macs, I accidently booted up the first CD Apple gives you when you buy your Mac ( it comes with it ), and it basically restored my computer to the original state it came in, I guess I could first backup the important files, and do that. Do you think it would work? Thanks again for your help, hope you get your popcorn.
You have choices I can't tell you what to do or which choices to make
now you have to accept the responsibility for your own actions.
i hope you make the right decisions.
