CS4 OpenGL not working on Windows 7 RC

Using on this test system:

Photoshop CS4 Extended

ATi FireGL V3400

Windows 7 x64 RC Build 7229

4GB RAM

My graphics card meets the required specification for OpenGL in Photoshop CS4, but it is not enabled (greyed out).

Has anybody else had problems with CS4 OpenGL in Windows 7 x64?

As a Microsoft Action Pack subscriber, I will actually be required to fully upgrade to Windows 7, a month after receiving it in mid-September.

If this is a problem due to CS4 not being fully compatible with Win7 (which I hope it is, as otherwise it's a mystery problem that is going to be hard to figure out), can I expect Adobe to have fixed it by October?

My enquiry is regarding the probable time scale that a fix comes about (and if other users have experienced this problem).

Why should they??Adobe may not have any obligation to fix any possible incompatibility, but they know how to run a company, and are not morons.?Of course they are going to make the current version of their flagship product compatible with the new, and soon to be contemporary, Windows operating system.?How soon they do this is the question.

Windows 7 is not that different to Vista (like XP was to Win2000), and uses the same drivers, so I was not expecting many problems when making the transition with all my graphics, 3D and CAD software.

When I said ''Why should they'', I was answering your question:

yes, it's ''not that different'' but it also isn't the same, Win7 uses WDDM (Windows Display Driver Model) 1.1 compared to 1.0 on Vista and as such it's up to MS, Ati, or Adobe to fix this depending on where the bug actually occurs. In the meanwhile, try running these reg files: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4056

I for one didn't have any problems on build 7100 with my 3850 (not that it matters much as workstation cards use different drivers)

Windows 7 RC 7100 64 bit works great with a ATI 4870 on my system. ATI does not list any updated support drivers yet on their web page for your card. ATI list 64 bit drivers for XP and Vista for your card but the last update was April 8th 2009. So until ATI comes out with Windows 7 drivers for you to download you will have issues with that card.

As to what Adobe will or won't do... this is a USER TO USER forum, so nobody here knows Adobe's plans

As to Win7 help... try http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/w7itpro/

Hi,

This card looks to be from 2006 and might have had driver problems causing us to not enable OpenGL because of stability issues. I'll see if I can get more info for you. Did you try it on an XP or Vista system?

Hi,

A quick test shows Vista32 enables OpenGL drawing. I haven't found a Win7 beta driver for the 3400, though. I'll see if we can get some status from ATI to forward.
